HL7 Version 3 Standard: Model Interchange Format, Release 1

This standard defines the content of the artifacts used by HL7, HL7 affiliates and implementers in the creation and implementation of HL7 Version 3 specifications, including messages, documents and services. It provides a detailed meta-model with detailed descriptions of each of these artifacts and their relationships. It also defines a syntax for exchanging artifacts in a computable manner. The Model Interchange Format is updated and balloted regularly as HL7 methodology evolves.
