National Authentication Service for Health (NASH)

National Authentication Service for Health (NASH) is a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate solution used to access digital health services.

Introduction

Healthcare providers and supporting organisations use the National Authentication Service for Health (NASH) to securely access and share health information. You need a NASH PKI Certificate to allow your organisation to securely access digital health services such as: 

• Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service
• My Health Record
• Electronic prescribing
• Secure messaging

NASH is used by healthcare provider organisations and supporting organisations to:

• Authenticate and securely access digital health services
• Digitally sign documents and other transactions 
• Encrypt health information for secure exchange

Technical Overview

• NASH SHA-2 Certificates 
  To increase security and compliance with the new Gatekeeper PKI Framework 3.1*, NASH SHA-2 PKI Certificates will be utilised as the main authentication and cryptographic solution for interacting with Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service, My Health Record (MHR), Electronic Prescribing and Secure Messaging. • NASH Organisation Certificate Tracker v1.0.1  
  To assist with timely renewals for ongoing connectivity, the NASH Organisation Certificate Tracker is a simple tool for listing the expiration dates of NASH PKI Certificates for Healthcare Provider Organisations (NASH certificates).  NASH certificates expire after two years and need to be regularly renewed to ensure ongoing connectivity.  For detailed information on NASH Organisation Certificate Tracker v1.0.1 visit here.
