The Clinical Information System (CIS) Requirements establish a nationally consistent baseline for CIS capability. They are designed to support secure, safe, and interoperable information exchange across care settings and provide a strong foundation for connecting with Australia’s national digital health infrastructure.

The final requirements:

  •  Define a shared national baseline for CIS capability
  •  Support secure and reliable information exchange across the healthcare ecosystem
  •  Enable sector-specific requirements (such as Aged Care, General Practice, and future Allied Health) to be layered on where appropriate
  •  Align with nationally recognised standards and specifications, including the HI Service, My Health Record, FHIR, SNOMED CT-AU, and contemporary cyber security practices
